Thousands of Homes Locked Away by Red Tape?

In today’s Irish Independent, Mark Keenan argued that Ireland’s “one size fits all” planning and conservation laws have left countless Pre-’63 properties in limbo, derelict, unusable, and barred from being modernised. He highlights conflicting rules – Fire safety demands vs. conservation restrictions –  sky-high renovation costs due to specialist requirements, legal and tax obstacles preventing sales or upgrades.
