Rent Freeze and Eviction Moratorium Extended until August 1st 2020
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien confirmed yesterday (20 July, 2020) that the rent freeze and eviction moratorium is extended until August 1st 2020.
The Covid-19 eviction moratorium prevents landlords terminating tenancies, for selling, breach of obligations, substantial refurbishment, or if you need it for yourself or your family. It protects non-paying tenants, anti-social tenants and tenants who have already been served with notice.
More legislation will be brought before the Dáil to provide greater protections to tenants. This legislation will be brought to cabinet on Thursday. The legislation may possibly see these measures continued through until the end of 2020.
IPOA are against this extension and further legislation being introduced. We believe there is little protection for landlords – it is not fair or equitable.
